Vibe Code Jam is the original live AI coding performance format created by John Threat at RIP SPACE in Los Angeles.

What is Vibe Code Jam?

Performers receive a random prompt from the audience and have exactly 8 minutes to build a complete, functional application using AI-assisted coding tools. It's part hackathon, part performance art, part live entertainment.

Unlike traditional hackathons that run for hours or days, Vibe Code Jam captures the spontaneous creative energy of live performance - think jazz improvisation meets software development.

Time limit: 8 minutes
Prompt: Audience-generated, random
Tools: Any AI coding assistant
Output: Working application, live demo

History & Scale

Vibe Code Jam started at intimate RIP SPACE gatherings of 50 people and has scaled to major institutional events with 1,400+ attendees through partnerships with Anthropic and Rhizome.
